Syngenta working with McDonald’s to reduce gas emissions from cows

Agrochemicals and seeds company Syngenta is working with fast food giant McDonald’s Corp and one of its meat suppliers to supply a type of corn which it says will reduce the gaseous emissions from cattle.

Syngenta’s Enogen corn, a genetically modified crop, contains an enzyme which quickly converts starch to useable sugars. This allows the cattle to reach market weight quicker and so reduces the greenhouse gases they produce before they are slaughtered and their meat is made into burgers.
