The 3rd Annual Verified Angus BBQ Cook-Off, hosted on May 7 at NAIT in Edmonton, brought together producers, pitmasters, industry leaders, culinary students, and international guests for an unforgettable evening celebrating the quality and versatility of Canadian Angus beef. Held as the opening reception for the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) National Conference, the event welcomed 309
registered guests, including delegates and business leaders from across Canada and Hong Kong. Interest in the event exceeded capacity, with many additional requests for attendance leading up to the evening. The cook-off paired Canadian Verified Angus producers with talented pitmasters from across Canada in a friendly but highly competitive showcase of creativity, collaboration, and exceptional beef.

• DNA samples sent in without test requests will default to Parentage Verification (PV).

• All exemptions from parent verification, made on or after April 1, now require an Angus HD test and Genetic Condition package plus a fee.
• All Donor Dam and AI approvals, made on or after April 1, now require an Angus HD test and Genetic Condition package.

Please note that any animals that have previously been approved as Donor Dams or AI Approval will not be required to complete this new testing.

Please let us know as soon as semen is collected or your flush is done so that Member Service can complete the necessary approvals.

The CAA AGM begins at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, June  25. Voting cards will be available for pick up between 12:00–1:00 p.m. Please note that there is one voting card per membership and that voting cards will not be given to any member who is not in good standing. Please ensure your account is paid in full by May 31 to ensure voting privileges.

The Animal Pedigree Act requires that all animals sold as registered be officially transferred by the seller and the registration certificate presented to the purchaser within six months of the date of sale. You can learn more about animal transfers on our website.
The fee schedule rate for transfer transactions is:
• Transfers < 90 days after sale: $20/animal
• Member-to-member Transfers > 90 days after sale: $100/animal
• Animal Transfers to Commercial Producers > 90 days after sale: $40/animal
Don’t forget to include the date when submitting transfers, leases and weights! We are unable to process these submissions without a date.

Maximize efficiency and minimize stress for you and your animal by collecting missing DNA samples when you handle animals. Properly submitting samples speeds up processing time significantly. Here are a few reminders on how to submit your hair samples to make the process run smoothly.

TSU Samples

Getting a TSU sample is as easy as tagging an animal and has proven to reduce failure rate due to consistent sample size. Also, it can reduce the turnaround time of your results because of automated testing at the lab. Here are some detailed instructions on how to start using TSU sampling today: TSU Producer Guide

Please do not put each TSU in a separate Ziplock bag. TSUs can all be placed in one bag. Carefully record which TSU belongs to which animal on a spreadsheet and email that to [email protected]. TSU barcode readers are available through the Association to make this process easier.

Hair Samples

Please note that hair samples are required to be submitted on CAA hair cards. You can order your complimentary hair cards online at www.cdnangus.ca/forms/hair-card-order-form/. Order today and take one more thing off your to-do list.

We require 80-100 hair roots to process the genomic tests that we offer. Particularly for members requesting multiple tests, please ensure that you are submitting plenty of hair sample or you may receive a resample request. DNA samples must be shipped to Angus Central (292140 Wagon Wheel Blvd Rocky View County, AB T4A 0E2, Canada). DNA samples shipped to the lab will be delayed and subject to a shipping fee to have them transferred to Angus Central.

• Canada Post (Regular Mail): Effective June 1st, all mail sent via Canada Post will be directed to our new address.
• Courier Services (FedEx, UPS, Purolator, etc.): Please continue sending all courier shipments to our current office until June 30th. Do not ship via courier to the new address before this date.

Our phone numbers and email addresses remain the same, and our team will be online and available to assist you throughout the transition.
