Keep your Credit Card Up-to-Date
When you receive a new credit card, please remember to contact us to update the information. You can submit the information at any time via our website. AngusNOW users, do not forget to update your credit card in the payments section before you open a new work order. Failed credit card transactions will result in late charges and you will be unable to complete any work.
Please note: we are unable to accept AmEx or debit cards including Visa Debit.

Have You Submitted All Your 2022 Calf Weaning Weights?
The Canadian Angus Performance Program is a voluntary program based on the principle of whole herd reporting. We thank all members who are compliant and up-to-date on their data submissions.
Complete herd inventory information and weaning weight information are required to participate on the program. Members who have not yet submitted complete weaning weight information for their 2022-born calves need to contact the office or submit their outstanding data ASAP to avoid a noncompliance suspension.
Adjusted weights, ranks, indexes, EPDs, performance reports and sire summaries are not available to members who are not compliant on the Performance Program. Missing information can be submitted using your missing information worksheets or on AngusNOW.

Yearling Weight Reminder
Please ensure that all your yearling weight information is submitted. The acceptable age range for yearling weights is 290 to 440 days of age. It is best to weigh your calves when as many of them are as close to 365 days of age as possible. Including accurate yearling weight management group information is critical. Animals that have been managed together and given the same opportunity to develop yearling weight should be placed in the same group.
It is also the perfect time to start collecting yearling foot scores and docility scores when you are taking your yearling weights. Although the scores for foot angle, claw set, and docility cannot be submitted through AngusNOW yet, you can submit these scores via a spreadsheet emailed to our member service team or via our online submission forms. Please have a look at our trait collection guide for more information on collecting foot and docility scores at yearling time.

ALERT: Allflex Angus RFID Tags Purchased Between December 1, 2021 and February 5, 2023
If you purchased Angus RFID tags through the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) between December 1, 2021, through February 5, 2023, the tags you purchased are programmed incorrectly. Impacted buyers will receive a personalized copy of the sample letter to the left.
A product check of the CAA program RFID tags by the Allflex Quality Assurance team found that the “01” breed code indicating the Angus breed was not included in the coding for CAA program RFID tags, which impacts some of the tags sold during that period of time. The “01” digit was printed on the tag visually but was not coded into the RFID chip set.
DO NOT remove any tags that have already been applied to animals to date as it is an offence to do so; the tag continues to be an approved CCIA RFID tag for regulatory purposes. If you have unused tags in your possession that are impacted by this incorrect coding and you would like to have them replaced, they will be replaced free of charge. The replacement offer expires June 30, 2023.

How Long Have You Been a CAA Member?
In 1998, the Canadian Angus Association introduced a program to recognize individuals and farm operations who have been Canadian Angus Association members for 50 consecutive years. The program expanded in 2011 to also recognize 75 years and 100 years of continuous membership. Awards are presented in the year in which the member purchases their 50th, 75th or 100th consecutive membership so this year we will recognize members who joined CAA in 1972, 1947 and 1922. We do our best not to miss anyone but sometimes our information is incomplete, especially when there have been inter-generational transfers. Your Canadian Angus Association staff are in the process of reaching out to this year’s potential honourees. If your family is celebrating a recognized milestone this year and has maintained a continuous membership (including inter-generational transfer) please contact [email protected] or call 403-571-3584 to discuss your eligibility.

5 Ways to Ease Dystocia Issues
www.beefmagazine.com recently published an article outlining ways to ease dystocia issues.
“Calving season is a busy time of year for beef producers. Nearly 91% regularly observe cows and heifers during calving, and research shows doing calving checks every three hours yields the best results.
“Yet, the best calving check regimen isn’t always practical and won’t eliminate calving problems or dystocia from occurring. About 9% of heifers and 4% of cows need some assistance during calving each year. What can producers do to prevent calving difficulty before it occurs to make the season less stressful?”

Introducing the Guardians of the Grasslands Game
The Public and Stakeholder Engagement team, a national Check-Off funded program, has launched the Guardians of the Grasslands Game!
This online, educational grazing simulation aims to teach students about the ecosystem services that are provided by raising cattle on grasslands including wildlife habitat, biodiversity and carbon sequestration, increasing their understanding of the benefits of beef production. Total play time is estimated between 15–20 minutes.
This first version of the game is specific to Alberta and has been connected to curriculum outcomes for students in grades 7–10. Ag for Life, the Alberta member of Agriculture in the Classroom Canada, will be delivering the game both online and through in-classroom learning. A special gaming kiosk is being built for the Know Your Food trailer that travels to schools, conferences and events across Alberta. Another educational partner, Inside Education, will also promote the game through its teacher network and professional development sessions.
Learn more at https://youtu.be/_Z3nTv2of_U
The game can be easily accessed by visiting the website, www.gotggame.ca. Teachers and educators register and receive a code to track student play and pull detailed reports. Students can either play online – via computer, tablet or phone – or download directly to play offline. Please note that Safari and Internet Explorer browsers are not supported. The game is also available for download on various platforms (the App Store, Google Play and Amazon).
