CAA Calving Book App Reminders
If you use the Canadian Angus calving book app, you don’t need to re-enter your information on AngusNOW. You can access your calving book on your computer using our calving portal (portal.cdnangus.ca). There you can enter missing information required for registration purposes and submit your registrations electronically.

Are you ready to make the switch from paper? Download the Canadian Angus Association Calving Book from the Google Play Store for your Android device or from the Apple App Store for your Apple device. After downloading, you will be able to register for an account using your Canadian Angus Association membership number and password of your choice. There is no cost to purchase the app!
As of January 1, 2025, the Canadian Angus Association Calving Book App will be free for commercial producers who have had a bull transferred into their name in the last three years. Ensure that you complete bull transfers promptly to ensure your commercial customers can have access to the app for this calving season.
Do You Know Someone Who Deserves to be in the Hall of Fame?
In 2021, the Canadian Angus Association created a process to openly and consistently manage requests to assist with nominations to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame and provincial halls of fame. We will accept suggestions and consider working with a group of members to submit a formal nomination of a CAA member once every three years. We are currently accepting recommendations for nomination in 2025.
All members are invited to submit names for consideration. If you know a worthy candidate, please email us the name of the CAA member and a 500-word summary of their accomplishments and why you believe they deserve to be nominated to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame (or a specified provincial hall of fame) by Friday, January 17. CAA will review all submissions and make a decision about submitting a nomination after reviewing all submissions.
CAA will provide the candidate endorsement and the financial responsibility of the supported application. Nominators will be responsible for the formal application to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame with support from CAA as required.

It’s not too early to consider applying for the Beef Leaders Institute (BLI)! The Canadian Angus Foundation, in partnership with the American Angus Association, has secured space for two Canadian Angus representatives at the Beef Leaders Institute (BLI) (https://cabcattle.com/targeting-the-brand/events/beef-leaders-institute). BLI provides a unique opportunity for members 25 to 45 years old to experience the beef value chain from pasture-to-plate. This annual event is designed for those who want an in-depth look at the industry outside their operation.
Regional Association News
BC Angus Association extends a sincere thank you to Tom deWaal, CAA past president and BC rep to the Canadian Angus board for his many years of service representing BC.
Tom will be leaving the CAA board of directors effective this June at the time of the CAA AGM and Convention in Manitoba.
Tom served two full three year terms on the national board, an additional year in the President’s chair and currently is completing his final year in the role of past president.
Thank you again Tom for your loyalty, leadership and friendship.
BC Angus Association is currently going through the process of finding a qualified and willing successor to serve their region at the national level.
Commercial Breeder of the Year 2024 – Hillmer Farms
Hillmer Farms run 350 black angus cows and actively support several Alberta Angus purebred breeders with their bull purchases. They sell approximately 50 bred heifers each year in December and they are all bred back to very low birth weight Angus bulls. They are very successful grain farmers and are also wanting to do more with the cattle as the 3rd generation, Keeley and Braeden are back on the farm. Their herd has been chosen as one of many in the CAA DNA pilot project with the recent RDAR funding. They usually sell all their steers each fall while keeping most of their females to either breed for themselves or put in their bred heifer sale.
Alberta Angus Board
On December 12, our Alberta Angus board gathered at Angus Central for our in person meeting. We only had a couple of directors that were unable to attend, so the majority of the board was present. We had some great discussions on plans for the upcoming year, budgeting and getting involved in promoting Angus across the province. We are very lucky to have a very active board that stretches all the way across Alberta, North to South and East to West! If you have any questions or suggestions, please make sure to reach out to a board member in your area or email albertaangus@cdnangus.ca for contact information.
The Maritime Angus Association AGM is January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Credit Union: Business Innovation Centre in Amherst, NS. More information to follow soon.

Canadian Junior Red Angus First Annual Regional Show Female of the Year!!
New in 2024, The Canadian Red Angus Promotion Society invited Junior Red Angus members from across Canada that are showing Canadian Registered Red Angus Females to apply for the program. CRAPS set up 3 Regions within Canada and awarded Jackets to the winner in each region. In order to qualify Juniors could accumulate points at 4-H shows at any level, jackpot shows, Regional Junior and Angus shows. Points were awarded for participation and Champions.
In addition, the 32 participants were entered in a draw for a $1500 sale credit at Red Roundup October 12, 2024. The winner was Lexie Dietrich of the $1500 and she purchased a female at the 2024 Red Roundup with the help of these funds.
Region 1 – British Columbia and Manitoba.
Heart of the Valley Angus, BC donated the Jacket to
Winner- Swayzie Bootsman, Rapid City Manitoba with her heifer Red JJL Mati 9L. Swayzie is a young Red Angus producer just getting started in the business.

Region 2 – Alberta and Saskatchewan-Towaw Cattle Co., AB donated the Jacket to
Winner- Heidi Pas, Mayerthorpe, Alberta on Red Redline Rosalie 71J and calf at side. Heidi had purchased her female out of Red Roundup Sale and along with winning Show Female of the Year she also won Grand Champion Owned and the Legacy Class at Red Roundup. It is great to see the Roundup cattle out working in the industry.
Region 3 – Ontario east to Maritimes –
Mar Mac Farms, MB donated the Jacket to
Winner- Corbin Reid, Moorefield, Ontario on Red Covey Hill Lauryn 5L. Corbin is busy expanding his Red Angus herd.
Thanks to everyone who applied, and we hope to give out more awards in 2025. Great to see Juniors from all across Canada being able to participate in this program.  Watch for more details on the 2025 program in the New Year.Â
