Dorothy Banks Memorial Scholarship – We are honoured to present Abby Slorstad of Sunnynook, AB with the Dorothy Banks Memorial Scholarship for this year. Abby is currently enrolled at University of Calgary, working towards her Bachelor of Science majoring in Biological Sciences concentrated in Genetics and Evolution. She hopes to pursue a career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or in the Genetics field. She has been very active showing Angus cattle in 4-H and junior programs and began building her commercial herd at the age of 5 and she has been building her purebred Black Angus herd for the last 10 years. Congratulations Abby! We wish you all the best in your future studies!
Alberta Angus Breed Builder of the Year – We presented Mark Holwaychuk of OBI Livestock with the Breed Builder of the Year awards at Farmfair’s 50th Anniversary. Mark has dedicated many hours and miles to promoting the Angus breed across Canada, but especially here in Alberta! We appreciate that he is always willing to step in and volunteer his time at events and promotes the breed in his travels. Congratulations Mark, we greatly appreciate all you have done and continue to do for the Angus breed and the livestock industry!

Alberta Angus Contemporary Breeder of the Year – We were honoured to present Duralta Farms, all four generations of the Durie family, with the Contemporary Breeder of the Year award at the Farmfair 50th Anniversary. The Durie family has invested their heart and soul into the Angus breed and continues to utilize AI, embryo and new genetics to build their herd and maintain the strong reputation for quality cattle that they have built over 4 generations. Congratulations to the Durie family on a job well done in the Angus breed and we look forward to continuing to see the quality cattle your program produces!

Angus and Angus Influence Feeder Calf Sale Report 2024 BC
October 9 – BC Livestock Producers Co-op, Williams Lake, BC
3000 head of primarily Angus and Angus influence feeder steer and heifer calves were in strong demand for the annual “Special Angus Influence” sale.
Chris & Dawn Armes had their 748 lb. black Angus steer calves bring $3.61/lb. Chris & Claire Jones saw their 624 lb. s/c sell at $3.94/lb. and their 587 lb. h/c trade at $3.54/lb.
Tom & Linda Hancock saw their 500 lb. s/c notch 44.34/lb. Pam Blain $ Bruce Donaldson has 630lb s/c hit $3.89/lb. while their lighter weight 536 lb. steers traded at $4.08/lb.
Rose Ranch had 589 lb. black hided s/c hit $4.04.50/lb. and their 402 lb. steers top at $4.92/lb.
Mumford’s of Alexis Creek brought a solid set of red calves with their 571 lb. s/c selling at $3.91 and their 582 lb. h/c trading at $3.47/lb.
A group of fancy red hided yearling steers weighing 825 lbs. consigned by Bud Lawler brought $3.17.50/lb.
Virgina Mackie’s black butcher cows topped at $174.50/lb.
BCAA sponsored the coffee throughout the day.
October 15 – BC Livestock Producers Co-op, Kamloops, BC
1300 head of calves and yearlings went through the ring at the Kamloops designated Angus influence feeder sale this day.
Ciancone Ranches, Kamloops brought a powerful group of 600 lb. black s/c trading at $4.03.50/lb. Dori & Bob Hampton’s 605 lb. black s/c reached $4.00/lb. while their 604 lb. h/c brought $3.49/lb.
Barb Harrison of Pritchard had red 616 lb. s/c hit $4.01/lb. with the big boys weighing 700 lb. sold for $3.80/lb. Fred & Barb Watkinson saw their 519 lb. black s/c sell at $4.02/lb.
October 25 – BC Livestock Producers Co-op, Vanderhoof, BC
Angus and Angus influence sale day saw the largest delivery of the fall run for Vanderhoof to date with 2300 head consigned. Top quality calves in larger drafts brought strong buyer demand throughout the day.
Lance & Kristine Brownscombe saw their 668 lb Blk steer calves hit $380.00/lb while the 593 lb steer calves traded at $4.07/lb and their 528 lb heifer calves bringing $3.72/lb. Rim Rock Ranch showcased a fancy Red heifer calves weighing 539 lbs topping the day at $4.30/lb.

November 4 – BC Livestock Co-op, OK Falls. BC
600 head of Angus and Angus influence calves made up the numbers for the special calf sale at Ok Falls. Ken & Darlene Fillmore opened the sale with their 585 lb Angus steer calves hit $4.15/lb while their heavier boys weighing 646 lbs traded at $379.50. Karl,Isabelle and Chance Wabnegger saw their 718 lb Angus steer calves bring $3.67.50. Cedar Creek Ranch filled the ring with outstanding 665 lb Blk Angus steer calves sell at $3.81/lb.

The PEI Angus Association AGM will be January 5 @12:30 p.m. at the Clyde River Hall
The Maritime Angus Association AGM is January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Credit Union: Business Innovation Centre in Amherst, NS. More information to follow soon.
