INHERIT Commercial Genomic Testing

INHERIT provides genetic insights that help build on the strengths of your commercial herd, giving you confidence using Angus genetics.

Genomic-Enhanced Expected Progeny Differences (GEPDs) are the most powerful genetic tool we have for selecting the best animals for your herd.

GEPDs are values that predict how the future progeny of an animal will perform relative to the progeny of other animals in the same breed. They are expressed in the units of that particular trait. For example, weaning weight is measured in pounds thus the Weaning Weight GEPD is expressed in pounds. Another way to look at it is GEPDs measure an animal’s value as a parent.

GEPDs are based on pedigree information and performance data such as weight information and are then compared to other animals within a contemporary group. The different traits are adjusted to a standard age to ensure that all animals are equal when they are compared.

Get started taking DNA samples

What type of samples can be submitted?

Your Association strongly recommends that you collect a DNA sample on your animals when you are processing them. You are able to store most types of samples at room temperature in a safe, dry location indefinitely. Please ensure that the samples are well labelled with the animal's tattoo or registration number for ease of future use.

Samples can be submitted as:

  • Hair
    • Hair samples should include the hair root or follicle and be affixed to hair cards available complimentary through your Association.
  • Tissue
