Program Overview
The Gold Show
program was developed in 1989 by the Canadian Angus Association
to provide an incentive for breeders to move between regions to
show cattle. Awards for Red and Black Show Bull of the Year and
Red and Black Show Female of the Year are calculated
based on the number of points accumulated over the show season.
In recognition of the Gold Show Champions, the owners receive a
plaque, presented at the annual meeting. In addition, a plaque
honoring the Gold Show Champions of years past is displayed in
the Canadian Angus Association office.
In accordance with the Canadian Angus
Association's Environmental Policy, the use of paint and
colouring on animals in Association-sponsored shows is
prohibited. The Board of Directors is responsible for checking
all animals entering the show ring and refusing entry to any
with paint or artificial colouring.
Each region is
entitled to designate two shows each year as Gold Shows for
which breeders can earn points. Gold Shows must be open to competitors from outside
the host province.
Gold Show
winners will be determined by the animal(s) that has earned the
highest number of points in three Gold Shows. If an animal
accumulates points in more than three Gold Shows, the points from
its best three shows will be used in determining end-of-year
awards.
Year-End Awards
will be given to Show Female and Show Bull
in both red and black (for a total of four awards).
