Commercial Programs — Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Tag Program

Free Angus Tags for Albertans: Alberta Age Verification Incentive Program Year 2

The Government of Alberta’s Age Verification Incentive Program moved into the second year on January 1, 2011. The program gives producers one free RFID tag for each animal they age verified in 2010. For example:

  • Bob is placing an order of 150 Angus RFID tags.

  • Bob had 140 calves born in 2010 that have been age verified. Also, last year Bob only bought 100 tags but he had 110 age verified calves born in 2009. Last year he could only apply for reimbursement on the 100 tags, and therefore had 10 calves not eligible under the program.

  • Bob will get all 150 RFID tags ordered this year at no charge. He can count the 140 calves born in 2010 as well as the 10 unclaimed calves from the previous year.

Producers are still required to pay the GST and shipping charges on all tags. Every eligible producer who submits an order to the Angus office will receive notification that they are eligible to apply under the program. The application form will be faxed or emailed to you as it requires a signature and then must be returned to the Angus office before the discount can be applied. Anyone who applied last year is eligible again in 2011 and will be eligible again in 2012 as this is a three-year program. For further information or to apply contact Cheryl by email or by calling (403) 571-3580 (1-888-571-3580) ext 238.

The Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Tag Program identifies Angus and Angus cross cattle.

Program Advantages

  • Tagged animals are in high demand by Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed beef programs; sell direct or through one of the 169 Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Feeder Sales across Canada

  • Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed tags visually and electronically identify Angus and Angus cross cattle. It’s our guarantee that the animal bearing the tag has a minimum of 50% Angus genetics.

  • Free third party age verification—we will take care of the paperwork for you

  • Angus tag numbers can be cross-referenced to registration papers and are an alternative form of animal identification

  • CCIA compliant tag—no other tag is required for national identification

  • Tags are eligible under the Government of Alberta’s Age Verification Incentive Program; you can get your tags for free (residents of Alberta only)

  • The use of Angus RFID tags (Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Tags) allows you to also purchase Angus dangle tags or the new Angus A-Tags

Program Requirements

  • Cattle must have at least one registered Angus parent.

  • Registration papers/semen receipt/lease of parent must be in the tag buyer’s name.

  • Also accepted as proof of eligibility are: signed affidavit from community pasture identifying the bull(s) used, embryo transfer slip, signed affidavit identifying bull in a family co-owned herd, and a signed affidavit from the original breeder identifying the registered Angus bull in the case of bred females being sold.
