Canadian Angus Performance Program — Weaning Report Explanation

  1. Weigh date: the date that you weighed your weaned calves
  2. Actual weight: weaning weight recorded and submitted to CAA
  3. Man. group (management/contemporary group)
    Assigned by the member
  4. Age at weigh date: age in days from the time born to time weaned and weighed
  5. 205 day Adj. Wt. (adjusted weaning weight)
    a. calculation: {(weaning weight – birth weight) x 205} / age in days + birth weight + age-of-dam adjustment factor
    b. note: see "Angus Adjustment Factors" form
  6. ADG: average daily gain
  7. ADG Index (also ratio): index/ratios are measures of individual performance and are calculated on a within-herd basis. They contain no pedigree or progeny information and are really only appropriate for comparing animals within the same herd or contemporary group. EPDs, on the other hand, are calculated from all sources of information—pedigree, own performance and progeny. EPDs are comparable across herds.
    a. calculation: (calf avg daily gain / average avg daily gain of contemporary group) x 100
  8. ADG Rank: ranking within animal's contemporary/management group, based on 205-day ADG.
