Announcements
Thank you to everyone who completed the member survey and congratulations to Milton and Mary Palmer, Meadowhills Farm, of Aylesford, Nova Scotia. They are the lucky winners of the ipad draw! Get a lot of performance papers in the mail? Have you considered going GREEN? We would like to invite you to go paperless and receive your performance reports online rather than getting a paper version in the mail. To participate, contact Kajal. Our new Registrar is Stacy Price who joined us in January. Price is very excited to be the newest member of the Canadian Angus Association’s staff. She was born and raised a Calgary girl. Twenty-six years ago Price married her husband Gordon and became a farm wife. Needless to say her life has never been the same, and she loves it. In 1995 they moved from the family farm to their own place north of Crossfield, where they raised cattle, sheep, grain and their three children Katie, Jennifer and Trent. Several years ago they sold the cattle but kept their Katahdin sheep that she still raises today. We have also hired a part-time Assistant Registrar, Esther Stern. Stern and her husband purchased their first quarter of land northeast of Calgary back in 1994. Here they have raised commercial cattle, horses, border collies and three daughters. Over the years with industry changes they have also added a millwright business. Stern's education background is in business/accounting and for the last 18 years she has been self employed. Throughout this time her jobs included bookkeeping, direct sales, training and financially advising for five years. Now as a general leader with their local 4-H horse club, the opportunity to join the Canadian Angus Association came to light at a perfect time in her life. Cassie Bacon is the new Marketing and Communications Specialist. Bacon joins our team after studying at Oklahoma State University where she was on the Meat and Livestock Judging teams. She owns a graphic design and livestock marketing business that just marked its fourth year. Through this experience she has had the opportunity to market cattle for some of the very best purebred breeders across the United States. Growing up she had the privilege to raise and show purebred cattle, sheep and hogs. Bacon resides in Disbury and will marry Ryan Dorran, a livestock auctioneer, in the summer. If you have not received your 2012 membership renewal, contact Joanelle by email or phone immediately. Membership fees were due January 1 and must be paid before any 2012-born calves can be registered. You can choose to keep a credit card number on file with the Canadian Angus Association in our secure database, or you can send a cheque in the mail with your paperwork. If you have changes to your current membership, please send them to us by fax or email. A price adjustment to some of our tag products came into effect on January 1, 2012. The following items are affected and the new prices are listed. The cost of the RFID tag has not changed and remains the only tag required to take advantage of the Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed program.
Please contact Cheryl if you have any questions about the Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Tag program.
The Canadian Angus
Association will be offering two summer internships, one with Alberta
and the other with Saskatchewan locality, focusing primarily on
marketing the female beef project to existing 4-H members, promoting the
4-H beef project, increasing the number of junior Angus members, general
industry promotion and immersion in CAA office services. These
full-time, 16-week, summer positions are available starting late-April
2012. The application deadline is March 1, 2012. Herd Inventories and Heifer Exposure Sheets Spring 2012 herd inventory packages will be in the mail this week. The year letter for 2012 is Z. Please take note of the important information provided in the envelope regarding changes and updates to programs which are happening this year. Any purchased females who do not appear on your Herd Inventory Sheets have not been transferred to you yet, or were not at the time of printing. Also included are the Heifer Exposure Sheets and an instruction order form. Please be sure to read this carefully to make sure your forms are filled out correctly. A Printable Tag Form can be printed from the CAA website. You can access this form under the left side Forms tab, or you can go to the Commercial Programs under Angus Tag Program, to find the same form. Also, tags can be ordered online via formstack, accessed from again the Commercial Programs under Tag Order Form. Either way, be sure to get your tag orders in! The Government’s Age Verification Incentive Program ends on December 31, 2012. When you are ordering your tags, please remember to have the number of 2011 born calves that were age verified available as well as the number of unused tag credits from previous years to the program can be maximized. Order tags early to avoid late deliveries and to ensure you have their Angus tags in plenty of time! The Canadian Angus Association provides electronic pedigree extracts that include three generation pedigree information, adjusted weights, ratios and indexes, EPDs, genetic defect test results, and Elite and Premier status information for those building sale catalogues. This is an extremely valuable service. To order your pedigree extract email Kajal to receive your list of sale animals. Also, starting this year, we will be posting pdf sale catalogues on our website free of charge with the pedigree extract service. Once your pdf has been made, send to Kajal also, to get your catalogue on the CAA website. |
