Electronic Registration Incentive

The Board of Directors is once again offering an incentive for members who register their animals online or use HerdMaster. Submit your registrations online or via HerdMaster for Spring 2011-born calves on or before July 15, 2011, and the price will be $15 per calf regardless of age. This incentive can offer a bit more time to get the animal records submitted.

To be set up as an authorized user, please complete form CAAFORM21-Electronic Registration Agreement and fax it to (403) 571-3599. To learn more about HerdMaster, the on-farm software program that is compatible with our registry, please contact HerdMaster Canada.

Electronic Storage Reminder

The Canadian Angus Association offers free electronic storage of registration certificates. A registration certificate that is electronically stored is available to be printed at any time, and there are no fees applied to either store it electronically or to have it printed upon request.

If you wish to have registration certificates that you have in your possession electronically stored, please bundle them up and mail them to us with a request for electronic storage. This service will be provided free of charge until June 1, 2011.

Tips from Breed Development

Linked herds: if your cattle are run with those of another member, they should be compared to each other. Make sure that your herds are linked and the member submitting the performance weights is designated the primary. For more information on linked herds contact Kajal at 1-888-571-3580 or by email.

Identify your Angus with a Tag Number

The Canadian Angus Association offers a secondary method to identify your registered cattle. While a tattoo is required under the bylaws of the Canadian Angus Association to permanently identify all registered Angus cattle, an easy way to cross-reference the identity of your animals is by listing their Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Tag number on the registration certificates. All Angus tags and Angus ATQ tags are eligible. Once animals are tagged, the data can be submitted to the office with the application for registration using the form included in the Herd Inventory mailout or available online. If the tag falls out once recorded on the certificate it can be easily updated. Simply return the certificate of registration with an explanation and the new tag number to the office and we will issue a corrected certificate free of charge. For more information or to get started contact Cheryl by email or at 1-888-571-3580 ext 238.

Performance Program Reminder

When you are registering your Spring 2011-born calves, remember to provide Whole Herd Reporting if you are on the Performance Program. Ideally, after we have registered your 2011 born calves you will receive a 205 day worksheet. If you have missing data on your dam inventory, we will instead mail a “missing data – herd inventory” worksheet. Please watch the returned packages for missing data reports and RFI (request for information) sheets if we have any questions about a calf or calves.

Attention Electronic Users

A number of electronic users also receive paper copies of reports. Please help us reduce paper waste and mailing costs by emailing us and asking us to stop sending you printed copies of reports. As a token of our appreciation, we will enter your name into a draw for an Angus prize.

Congratulations to Marylee Wilkie, Bob and Lorene Cunningham, and Mert Taylor who have all won an Angus prize for making the switch to paperless.
