Thank you to all the members who responded to
our call for sires and donor dams that need to have their
parentage DNA upgraded to SNP technology. We are overwhelmed at
the response that we got from all of you. We have compiled a
list of over 2,800 DNA samples that need to be converted to SNP.
This will take much longer than we anticipated, and additional
funds for this conversion will need to be sought. Therefore, the
conversion to SNP parentage verification has been delayed until
July 1, 2012.
Here is some information that members have
asked for in the last few weeks:

Why the conversion? The
Association tries to bring to its membership the most
up-to-date technology.

Will I be able to sell semen to the US
and other countries with this type of parentage
verification? Yes, all the Angus Associations that
belong to the World Angus Secretariat committed to convert
to SNPs. And, both the American Angus Association and Red
Angus Association of America have already done so.

Does the way that I order DNA kits or
get parentage done change? No, the process for our
members will remain the same.

Will we need new DNA samples for the
conversion? No, we will use stored DNA for the
conversion.
